OUR WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE

#WakeUpWorld is a campaign full of The Save Movement vigils around the world where activists bring non vegan or non activist friends and family to a vigil. The Save Movement holds vigils for animals at slaughterhouses where activists bear witness to them in their final moments.
Wake Up World: Holiday Edition is the last two weeks of December where we ask individuals to ask nonvegan friends and family to come to a vigil and sign up for Veganuary: www.veganuary.com/save. This is a time of the year to get together as families. Let us not destroy other families.

SAVE ORGANIZING TOURS: Save Latino Tour

The second Save Latino Tour of 2018 is here!
The Save Movement Latin America started its Save Latino Tour on November 13 with organizers Nevenka Tenenbaum and Maureen Lómez to open new groups and support those who need it.
They will visit the following cities of Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay: Tucumán, Salta, Corrientes, San Juan, San Luis, Trelew, Neuquén, Bariloche, Santa Cruz de La Sierra, Cochabamba, La Paz, Lima, Trujillo and Asunción.
At the same time, they will be holding informative talks for activists who want to know the movement and want to us, as well as sharing other local activism to generate a more active and united community.

Our Save Latino Tour organizers report great news after their Bolivia vigils:
“We are really happy to announce that we made it on five different news media on our Save Latino Tour; including El Deber, the most important newspaper from Bolivia.”

AFRICA

SOUTH AFRICA
Save Movement Johannesburg held a vigil for the pigs on November 26. They report:
“We bore witness to pigs going to the gas chamber at Pork Packers Olifantsfontein. 18 volunteers gathered and were able to stop the third truck that came by standing near the entrance to the slaughterhouse with signs asking for just 2 minutes to show compassion. We were able to VERY briefly meet and extend compassion to pigs that were being transported from piggeries as far as Fochville and Bela-Bela (both 100s of kilometers away).

ASIA

HONG KONG
Hong Kong Pig Save offered this moving report from their November 18 vigil:
“We are straying off from nature and compassion. Bearing witness is a bridge to understand our animals and to make connections with them. Since 2010, over 500 cities have started a Save group under The Save Movement. We are not alone. The voice for peace is getting stronger and plant-based choices keep growing every day.”

THAILAND
Bangkok Animal Save held a vigil for the pigs on November 28. They report:
“We bore witness to 80-100 six-month-old babies who’ve lived a life of torture and will tomorrow morning have a bolt gun shot into their skulls and their throats slit until they bleed out. And why? If it was a dog or a cat or a dolphin in this picture, would you have the same response?”

AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND

AUSTRALIA
Sydney Fish Save report from their first vigil, held at the Sydney Aquarium:
They report from their second vigil at the Sydney Fish Market:
“This weekend Sydney Fish Save held our 2nd vigil, this time outside of the largest fish markets in the Southern Hemisphere, Sydney Fish Market. A dedicated group of activists held signs and TVs for 3 hours with tape over their mouths (to signify that the fishes’ screams can’t be heard). We handed out about 250 flyers and raised awareness for the most exploited animals on Earth, marine life.”

EUROPE

EUROPE VEGFEST TOUR

Save organizers report from their very productive participation at vegfests around Europe:
“At the end of October we were at London Vegfest for the weekend and met so many people wanting to get involved with The Save Movement and attend local vigils in their area. Most people that visited our stall had already heard of us and had watched videos online of our vigils. It was a really successful weekend with lots of people also enjoying the talk that was given by Dina on why we bear witness. Thank you for the kind support to anyone that stopped by and spoke to us.

In November we were at VeggieWorld Brussels and Maria gave a successful talk to many people in the audience, explaining the power of bearing witness at vigils. Again we had lots of people coming to our stall, showing interest in getting more involved in The Save Movement and wanting to attend vigils or to even set up their own Save group.
Our last stall of the year will be at VeggieWorld Christmas Lille in France, December 15-16, at Les halls de la filature from 10AM – 6PM on both days. We hope to see some of you there.

“At our vigil we had an author attend who is doing research on the leather industry. It was her first vigil. Afterwards, we asked if she had enough info and if bearing witness was useful. Her response was that just seeing one truck was enough. One truck is enough to remind us why we are vegan, why we are activists and why it’s so important to bear witness. To be there for the animals, to ignite within us the fight to end this and to raise awareness of the industry and the animal’s plight.”

“Toronto Pig Save activists have been holding vigils at Fearmans slaughterhouse for several years and have raised safety concerns with Fearmans regarding aggressive truck drivers. Our requests have been ignored. We call on Michael Latifi CEO of Sofina Foods and Fearmans slaughterhouse to set up a Safety Agreement Now to enable us to safely bear witness at our weekly vigils.”

Okanagan Animal Save report from their November 25 chicken vigil:
“We stopped two trucks full of chickens as they entered Colonial Farms slaughterhouse. We also had our first police presence. We were impressed with how they handled mediating between us and the truck drivers. This was the first time they had ever dealt with animal activists.
There were so many injured and deceased birds on the trucks. This negligence will not be disregarded. We have filed a report with the CFIA and SPCA. We’re waiting to hear back.”

Climate Save Movement‘s core message is: Help save the planet by going vegan and becoming active.
These are your tax dollars! The Toronto Star reports on the newly announced Maple Leaf facility in London, Ontario:
“The federal and Ontario governments are providing subsidies for the facility — $28 million and $34.5 million respectively — taking a very contradictory position to governmental climate goals.”

The headlines tell us what’s happening, but not what to do about it.
The Save Movement is working to set up a Climate Vegan working group to produce a plan of action and to launch campaigns to address this most urgent of disasters. We will involve our 560+ chapters in 60 countries around the world. Climate change is happening and it is absolutely critical that we mobilize to fight it before it’s too late.
We need all the help we can get. Please join us!

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.

“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy
In seven years, The Save Movement has grown to over 570 Save groups in 60 countries around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns (iVegan.ca) and vegan outreach events.
Make animal liberation your priority in life! Think of 10 kind things you can do each day and encourage your friends to do the same! Join us and participate in our weekly vigils, start a Save group in your community, and be a regular donor.
