The weekend of May 2 marked a significant milestone for the animal rights movement in Spain. For the first time, three Animal Save Movement chapters—Madrid Animal Save, Valencia Animal Save, and Denia Animal Save—joined forces to organize an unprecedented collaborative event in the streets of Valencia.
A Day of Outreach, Action, and Community
The day began at the iconic Plaza de la Virgen, where activists held a two-and-a-half-hour Save Square. Around 60 activists took on different roles to maximize the event's impact.
Some participants held signs with key messages while others displayed five screens showing footage of animal exploitation, creating a powerful visual presence that engaged passersby.
At the same time, the remaining activists had compassionate, one-on-one conversations with members of the public, encouraging reflection on animal rights and introducing them to the ethics of veganism.
Immediately after the Save Square, participants marched for the animals from Plaza de la Virgen to Plaza de la Reina. As the march progressed, more local activists joined, bringing the total to over 100 participants raising their voices together for the animals.
The day concluded with a shared dinner at a local vegan restaurant, strengthening connections and building relationships between activists from different regions.
Mother's Day Action and Record-Breaking Impact
The following day, activists gathered again for a second Save Square at Playa de las Arenas in Valencia.
This action focused on Mother's Day, highlighting the suffering of mothers and babies in the dairy and egg industries, encouraging the public to reflect on the hidden realities behind these products.
The weekend concluded with a 100% plant-based community fundraiser meal, raising funds in support of local animal sanctuaries in Valencia.
Together, these back-to-back events represented one of the largest coordinated actions for animals ever organized in Spain. More importantly, they demonstrated the power of collaboration between Animal Save chapters and the impact that can be achieved when activists unite around a shared purpose.
