Activist Spotlight: Meet Aprajita Ashish From Mumbai Animal Save

When did you become vegan?
I became vegan in 2018 around 4 years ago.

Why and when did you start your activism and organizing?
I started activism because I felt that it's very important to speak against oppression and for non-human animals. I always wanted to use my privilege to speak for them. I started doing activism in November 2018.

Can you tell us about the kind of actions you hold with Mumbai Animal Save?
We use non-violence, anti-speciesism and compassion in all our activism approach. We do food giveaways, college lectures, street outreach, street plays, and truck outreach.

What does it mean to you to be in the animal liberation movement?
For me, the animal liberation movement is the 1st step towards liberation for all.

Can you tell us a little bit about Plant Based Treaty in India. How did it start? What is the mission?
Plant Based Treaty started with a boom in India. We have the support of the Mayors of 12 cities and one village. These cities have endorsed PBT.

Our mission is to spread awareness about the destruction caused by animal agriculture and shift towards a plant-based food system. We will be talking about the ill effect of eating animals on our planet, animals and the environment.

Can you share with us any messages for new activists?
We need to be consistent in our activism to bring change. Love and a non-violent approach has the power to change the world.
