OUR WEEKLY NEWS UPDATE

What started off as just one person and her dog bearing witness to pigs being sent to slaughter in Toronto, has grown to become an international movement consisting of 500 chapters.
Bearing witness is being present in the face of injustice and trying to help.
We have bore witness to millions of terrified animals during their final moments of life saved many from certain death.
The world is waking up to the extreme injustices of the animal farming industry.
Be on the right side of history, get in touch to join or start a Save near you: http://thesavemovement.org

   Mr. Bean

Fast Against Slaughter on October 2
Together, tens of thousands will rise on October 2 to speak the truth about farmed animals. In the historical tradition of Cesar Chavez, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mahatma Gandhi, we will join together in a one-day Fast Against Slaughter in solidarity with these innocent victims.
Through our voluntary sacrifice of food on this day, we will amplify the voices of the billions of farmed animals suffering around the world. We will inspire others to learn the truth. And we will mobilize a compassionate global community who will not wait for justice, but who will make it a reality.
Join the movement and take the Fast Against Slaughter pledge at dayforanimals.com/pledge.

SAVE ORGANIZING TOURS

ITALY
Three new groups form in Italy! The Save Movement – Italia is a regional page meant as a central resource for Italian Save groups, as part of our ongoing efforts to expand and increase our presence for the animals.
Those efforts include organizing tours, such as the one currently taking place in Italy with organizer Christina, Karol and Simone.
Organizers Christina & Adnan shares more details. More on individual vigils below:

“Our first stop on the tour was Rome; we met with the current group, NOmattatoio – Italy Save Movement, and worked on building a stronger team and helping them develop their vigils as they were not able to stand by the slaugherhouse entrance nor stop the trucks. Currently Simone Scampoli — who will be the new regional organizer from Italy — is talking to new people who will help build the group even stronger, still with help and participation from the previous activists and organisers.

After this we continued to (Firenze) Florence where the organizers managed to build a really good friendship with the police and we managed to stop all trucks and build trust with the workers. The group is very strong and even managed to get in the biggest local newspaper for their first vigil, with a very positive article.

We then continued to Cremona where we met with a smaller but very strong group of activists. They were so motivated, we did not only host one but two vigils with them. In Cremona the police ended up stopping the trucks for us, showing their badges and defending us in front of an angry driver. We also got a local newspaper article written about us here and Simone got on TV speaking about the vigils and the local activists.

We are now in Como where we have held our presentation, it is a small group but several of the activists came with the idea that they would not want to participate in the vigil, but after the presentation they decided they will join us tomorrow.

Last stop will be Milan, where we have very strong local activists waiting for us. Como and Milan will be supporting each other, and the activists from Cremona are also joining us in Milan.
Even though this tour is ending soon, we have gotten in contact with even more groups wanting to get started, so soon Simone will travel back to help new groups in Bologna, Napoli and perhaps even more cities.”

These organizing endeavours are paying off. Groups are forming at a rapid pace.

They banded together in front of a slaughterhouse in Belvedere with the international organization ‘The Save Movement’, spreading a peaceful message hoping to stimulate people to think about the suffering that billions of animal have to go through.”

Melbourne Pig Save report from their event to honour the victims of the pig farming industry: A Tribute to the Piglets in the “Pork” Industry:
“On September 22 we paid respect to the victims of the pig farming industry. The 14 piglets we had in our care were brought into the public space in Bourke St. Mall, Melbourne, to show the public who the victims are when they purchase products they naively believe cause no harm. They were collected from just one piggery. They are the ‘lucky’ ones, and what a terribly sad thing to say about them when they died, some of them not even taking a breath of air, alive in the womb but born dead due to a prolonged and difficult birth.
Instead of us having them with us as a tribute to honour their lives, calling them lucky to be dead, and at such an early stage of their lives, what would have been lucky is if we could have said they got to have a life worth living.”

Maribor Animal Save report from their September 10 vigil:
“Yesterday, at the Koška slaughterhouse, there were so many trucks with animals that we could not count them. Mostly they were young bulls, some of them ‘well-fed’milk cows and their calf. We heard the cries of the pigs that had been slaughtered and, as most of them resisted, they did not want to step out of the truck. We had the opportunity to spend some time with the animals and record their faces. Our main goal is to show animals on trucks as individual persons, to tell their stories in the desire to connect people to their suffering and exploitation with their actions and to decide to break this cycle of suffering.”

These chickens were rescued the day after the Kaporos ritual in New York City.
They are the lucky few after 60,000 of their friends and family were killed in the name of religion.

Cameron Bigger of Bay Area Animal Save reports from their vigil for the chickens at Grimaud Farms on September 19, jointly held with Stockton Animal Save:
“Today we witnessed and documented thousands of chickens in horrible conditions at a Stockton slaughterhouse. Thankfully for CA Penal Code 597, and Bay Area Animal Save, at least this one is now at a vet and will live out the rest of her life being loved at a sanctuary, sharing an important story of how she arrived there… 1 out of 2,000+ is a bittersweet feeling, but it’s better than none… I thoroughly believe every elementary student in my country should be given a field trip to an “animal farm” just how they’re given trips to fruit & veggie farms – in order to see where it is our food comes from. Even conventional U.S. school lunch meals are usually composed of over 75% animal products, so it’s only fair for us to see the origins of what we’re being given. If that were to happen, the system would change overnight. That’s how powerful the natural emotional feedback is upon witnessing the animal agricultural industry at work.”

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.

“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy
In seven years, The Save Movement has grown to 500 Save groups around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns (iVegan.ca) and vegan outreach events.
Make animal liberation your priority in life! Think of 10 kind things you can do each day and encourage your friends to do the same! Join us and participate in our weekly vigils, start a Save group in your community, and be a regular donor.
