The Save Movement Around the World – 05/8/18

THE SAVE MOVEMENT AROUND THE WORLD

CANADA

Dear friends,

Don’t turn away. Join us! Bear witness at our weekly vigils.

Toronto Pig Save’s All Day Emergency Heatwave Vigil at Fearmans
August 7, 8 am – 8 pm
Please join us for an emergency vigil for pigs. The temperatures are set to soar again with humidity in the upper 30’s.
Please bring water in reusable bottles to reduce waste.
The poor pigs, who have no sweat glands, are being transported in the extreme heat. Animal agriculture is a leading cause of climate change and the animals suffer even more in the extreme heat. Help stop this evil cruelty and injustice towards animals and potential runaway climate change by going vegan and getting active in the animal rights and environmental movements

Climate Vegan‘s core message is: Help save the planet by going vegan and becoming active.

Let’s mobilize to fight climate change
As the world heats up from human-caused climate change, record-setting fires rage across the planet.
The Sudbury Star: As Ontario burns, Ontario calls for more help – Hundreds of fires burn across the provinceThe L.A. Times: The common thread in California’s wildfires: heat like the state has never seen
“You don’t get a record hot July by accident right now. It’s just the whole background state of the climate is hotter. The entire Earth is hotter than it used to be.”The Globe and Mail: Extreme summer heat waves may become ‘the norm’ for European cities, researchers sayThe headlines tell us what’s happening, but not what to do about it.
The Save Movement is working to set up a Climate Vegan working group to produce a plan of action and to launch campaigns to address this most urgent of disasters. We will involve our almost 450 chapters around the world. Climate change is happening and it is absolutely critical that we mobilize to fight it before it’s too late.
We need all the help we can get. Please join us!

The Climate Vegan plan of action could include campaigns such as:
1. Screenings of films such as Cowspiracy at universities and other fertile grounds.
2. Regular demonstrations such as the yearly Earth Day chalking and leafletting event.
3. Marches to draw the public’s attention
4. A long march such as Toronto to Ottawa (400 kilometers) to engage the political establishment
5. Reforestation programs
6. Advertising campaigns
7. Training program, including a guidebook
What ideas do YOU have to suggest? Please email Bo at torontopigsave@gmail.com with any suggestions for this important initiative.
The best change we can make to fight climate change is to make the whole world vegan.
The amount of crops we currently grow is sufficient to feed the burgeoning global population – but only if people start ditching meat and dairy among other changes, according to a new study.

Hi, I’m Lily the Mother Goat. Please follow/like my Instagram and Facebook pages.

Activist and teacher Nicole Ada shared her interaction with her students:
“This afternoon I shared with some students of mine a few images of Lily The Mother Goat and the first thing they asked unanimously without me saying anything about her life was ‘Where are her babies?’ If that doesn’t send chills up your back I don’t know what will. Three- to four-year-old children get the concept of a mother having her children around her, but sadly since Lily produced milk before she was rescued, just like any milk-producing machines, her babies were horrifically taken away from her to become like their mom or killed for goat meat 🙁 Does that not upset you?”

If you would like to bear witness but don’t have Save vigils near you, consider starting a group.
Email us at savemovementinfo@gmail.com or check out thesavemovement.org for info on how to get started!
We will help you every step of the way.

AUSTRALIA

On August 4 Adelaide Animal Save held their #SomeoneNotSomething demonstration in Rundle Mall in the form of a public funeral for 10 of the roughly 600,000 piglets who die at Australian pig farms before they reach weaning age of 25-30 days old. Their causes of death are most commonly birth defects caused by unnaturally large litter sizes and strain on the mother pigs from repeated farrowing, illness caused by unsanitary living conditions or injuries from rough handling.
Each of the 10 piglets were found deceased at South Australian farms, with a plaque and a description of how they were found displayed for each.

Save Movement Puebla report from their latest vigil on July 28 at the municipal slaughter plant:
“We arrived at the slaughterhouse at 4:40 am; we waited for more than two hours and nothing, until 7:10 am when the first truck with pigs arrived. The driver did not want to stop but there was traffic, so we were able to get close to them for a few minutes, but it was too fast. Then two more trucks arrived and gave us time to be with them, the pigs were covered in excrement, wet and cold. Some were together, warming themselves, others were at the end of the truck, alone, shaking.”

We should all stand together in front of all the slaughterhouses, united with one solid message: ‘Animal liberation.’ Imagine how powerful it would be to have a Save Movement group in all the slaughterhouses on this planet.”

“Today, myself and 8 others witnessed thousands and thousands of innocent lives heading to their deaths, for humans to buy their bodies, which are pumped with antibiotics. A completely unnecessary act, as we do not need animal products to survive, and in fact, we function better without.” – Ash Ben with West Yorkshire Save.

Toronto Pig Save started in December 2010, with a promise to the pigs of doing a minimum of three vigils and vegan outreach events each week, all year round. We bear witness as a community of pigs, cows, chickens and other farmed animal victims in slaughterhouse trucks. The animals want us to be present and, with the most pleading eyes, ask for our help when we see them through the portholes of transport trucks. Just as if we were in those horrid trucks, we would want the whole community to be there fighting for our freedom, liberation, rights, and equality. In a way, we are there. All life is one and, “when (wo)men wish to harm others, they really do evil to themselves,” Leo Tolstoy said in his animal rights story “Esarhaddon, King of Assyria”. It’s our positive duty and obligation to act in the present to try to stop the most egregious injustices before us.
“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.” – Leo Tolstoy
In seven years, The Save Movement has grown to over 400 Save groups around the world. Our dream is to have regular vigils at every slaughter plant worldwide. We regularly give seed money to new Save groups and require funds for literature, posters, subway ad campaigns (iVegan.ca) and vegan outreach events.
Make animal liberation your priority in life! Think of 10 kind things you can do each day and encourage your friends to do the same! Join us and participate in our weekly vigils, start a Save group in your community, and be a regular donor.
