The Save Movement Around the World – 12/6/17

FREEDOM FOR ALL! JUSTICE FOR ANIMALS!
The 5th Toronto March to Close All Slaughterhouses took over central Toronto streets on June 10 to demand freedom and justice for all animals and an end to their exploitation and murder. Marches take place in other cities around the world too. Thousands of residents and visitors were impacted by the sight of so many passionate activists fighting for freedom for all. The march included two die-ins at major intersections, during which the actual recorded screams of animals inside slaughter plants were played.

WATCH live video from Toronto Pig Save’s special June 11 vigil at Fearmans “Pork” slaughter plant, part of the weekend of action for animal liberation June 10-12. Activists from all over North America joined us to bear witness.
There is a heat advisory in effect in the Toronto area, which means the pigs suffer more than usual. Activist Ananda Elora writes: “Trucks full of 6-month-old baby pigs arriving at Fearmans. They’ll be held overnight until they’re sent to the gas chambers in the morning.”

Here’s an additional video: watch transport truck driver aggressively drive forward, trying to prevent activists from bearing witness.

THE SAVE MOVEMENT AT THE FEST

The Save Movement ‘Hello Europe!’ 2017 Tour Begins at Vegan Summer Festival Brighton
Throughout the coming months, we will be spreading the word and travelling to vegan events throughout Europe to meet new people and start new Save groups. In the past year, The Save Movement has grown immensely in the UK, with now over 40 groups, so we are looking to spreading this further to build up a network of groups throughout Europe.
First up was the Vegan Summer Festival in Brighton, England. We worked with the newly formed group Sussex Animal Save to promote their first vigil and inform people about the work of The Save Movement. Around 35 activists joined together to bear witness to animals arriving at Tottingworth Farm in Sussex. Thank you to everybody who was involved with this first vigil, and to everyone who supported us at the Vegan Summer Festival in Brighton. This was a hugely successful first event!

Essex Pig Save – Southend Vegan Fair
Essex Pig Save held a stall at the first ever Southend Vegan Fair in Essex. The event was a great success with most stalls sold out by the early afternoon, bringing together a local community of vegans and vegan-curious locals. Our stall had a great response. We had many interesting conversations with the public and sold some of our brand new Essex Pig Save T-Shirts and other merchandise. We were able to talk to a lot of people about the work we do and why we do it. Many had heard of our group, but had the feeling that they wouldn’t have the strength to attend vigils. After explaining how empowering and inspiring the vigils are, as an opportunity to come together to stand up for animals and meet like-minded people at the same time, we received several messages after the event from people saying they plan to join one of our future vigils.
Thank you to everybody who came to see us at Southend Vegan Fair and for your support and kind words!

The Save Movement will be at the Warped Tour starting next week! Activist Mariah Noelle reports:
“Our first stop is June 16th in Seattle, WA. Here is a graphic made to spread the word, and you can follow our ‘journi’ in the link below!”

AUSTRALIA

On June 8, Melbourne Chicken Save held another night vigil at La Ionica chicken slaughterhouse in Thomastown. Dillon Watkin reports:
“Here are just a few of the 500,000 6-8 week old broiler chicks that are murdered at La Ionicas every week. Just babys who have never done any wrong, who have never hurt anyone, never known a life free of oppression, never experienced love or compassion. Imagine what they have endured every single day and what they will endure during their last moments. No being deserves this, especially not the purest and most vulnerable beings on the planet. Choose to live a compassionate life, it will be the most rewarding decision you will ever make.”

On June 10, Melbourne Fish Save held their first vigil at the Melbourne Sealife Aquarium. About 50 activists attended and 500 informative flyers were handed out to the public, outlining why we need to stop eating fish right now, for the future of our oceans, planets and ourselves, not to mention the huge scale of cruelty and pain that is associated with all types of fishing. It was a really successful, educational day!

Also on June 10, Animal Activists Australia in collaboration with Melbourne Chicken Save and EvoLens projected footage from the Eggs Exposed campaign on a Southbank wall in front of Southgate. The focus was on the projection and eggsexposed.com. There was a light brigade with the www.chickenchoices.com website displayed.

After day 4 of their 5-Day Save, North Carolina Farmed Animal Save reported:
“Thank you to James DeAlto for pulling together this video from today’s vigil in Wallace and Clinton, featuring so many of the great voices who joined us, including James Aspey, Wayne Hsiung, and Ryan Phillips!
“Thank you so, so much to everyone who came out today and stood with North Carolina Farmed Animal Save. We can’t tell you how much it means to have people show up and stand up for what is right – especially a group as awesome and diverse and talented and helpful as this. We appreciate how everyone pitched in, rolled with the change in venue, conducted outreach, made your voices heard, and were just all around awesome and supportive of each other! So grateful for you all!”

And on day 5, from the world’s largest pig slaughterhouse, Smithfield Packing Tar Heel: “6-month-old babes on the way to slaughter. Please join us to create a kinder future.”

They also bore witness to chickens. Activist Cayla Nichols reports:
“The pigs and chickens are scared, dirty, and in poor condition when we see them. With spray paint on their backs, we see them as more than just somebody’s ‘property.’ We see them as more than just a food product. We see them for who they are. We see them as the babies that never got to know what grass feels like.”

Knoxville Farmed Animal Save held an All Day Event with James Aspey on June 7. The day included bearing witness at a slaughter plant and putreach in a market area. Watch videos:

Bearing witness at Koch Foods in Morristown.
